What Doesn’t Work: The Laundry List of Edits

When you send me a list like this…

  • Decrease the size of the time “4 PM” to the size used for the venue location.
  • Remove white outline on the blue text.
  • Increase spacing between our first and last names.
  • Remove the bottom right leaf in the flower art.
  • Remove the ombre and use the sage color on the left side for the entire front.

…this tells me what you think needs changing, but it also accidentally starts telling me how to fix it. And sometimes, those “how to” fixes cause bigger design issues elsewhere.

The Right Way to Give Wedding Invitation Design Feedback: Tell Me the What, Not the How

Instead of giving step-by-step instructions, tell me:

  • What you love.
  • What’s not vibing with you.
  • What you want it to feel like.

Example of Helpful Wedding Invitation Design Feedback in Action

Not-so-helpful: “Change the font to Baskerville and make it bigger.”
Helpful instead: “The address font feels too western. Can we try something more refined?”

Not-so-helpful: “Delete the monogram.”
Helpful instead: “We liked the monogram idea, but maybe something more gothically ornate would fit better.”

Why this works: They described what wasn’t working without giving me step-by-step instructions. That left me free to solve it creatively — and that’s where the magic happens.
