Are We Your Wedding Invitation Designer?

Choosing the right invitation designer for your wedding branding isn’t just about pretty paper — it’s about finding someone who understands your vision, your vibe, and your boundaries. The right fit will feel like magic: a partner who gets your obsession with details, elevates your ideas, and makes the entire process seamless. The wrong fit? That’s when things start feeling like a DIY Pinterest mash-up, and nobody wants that for a once-in-a-lifetime event.

07 WHY FIT MATTERS

Green Flags: The Couples Who Are the Right Fit for a Wedding Invitation Designer

Couples who trust my expertise – tell me your vibe, priorities, and vision, and then let me work my magic without micromanaging the size of the ampersand.
Detail-obsessed dreamers – Live for the little touches that make your guests feel like they’ve stepped into another world.
Big-picture thinkers – Know the goal is a cohesive look across everything, not a Frankenstein mash-up of random Pinterest ideas.
People who see this as an investment – Understand design sets the tone for your entire wedding and are ready to invest accordingly.

Red Flags: When a Wedding Invitation Designer Isn’t the Right Choice

“Frankenstein” requesters – You send me ten inspo pics and want me to mash together the florals from one, the layout from another, the font from a third, and the colors from a fourth. Taking little pieces from totally different designs and asking me to stitch them together into one may sound creative, but in reality, it’s not it—and I’ll decline taking on requests like this

Overly prescriptive designer-in-disguise – Feedback is amazing. Telling me how to fix something? That’s my job. You focus on what’s not vibing, and I’ll handle the creative solution. If you’re going to dictate every pixel, every move, and tell me exactly “how” to design… this won’t work.

The budget shopper looking for the cheapest option – There are amazing designers for every budget, but Paper Love Spell is for couples investing in high-end, fully custom artistry.

This actual planner email I got once (yes, this is real):

Why These Are Hard Passes 🚫

  1. It’s not custom. My process isn’t about recreating what already exists — it’s about creating something one-of-a-kind that tells your story.
  2. Skips the trust. My best work happens when my couples hand me the vibe, the vision, and the freedom to execute — not a parts list from the internet.
  3. Kills cohesion. Pulling from five different styles means your invitations don’t feel like a brand… they feel like a hot mess express of conflicting ideas.

Red Flag Inquiry: The “I Want You to Design XYZ Together” E-mail

This is a word-for word e-mail I recieved that I gave a major hard pass to:

“Hey girl hey!! Hope all is amazing!! So..I have this client that wants to really really personalize her invitations and I was wondering if this is was something you could potentially help us with??

This envelope with her house picture in sage green *inserts picture directly from an Etsy listing*

These invites with sage green back and blush pink writing, in this wavy shape (Invite and details card).

And maybe this vellum wrap (or ribbon).

We’re still checking Mnted but having found anything we like yet.”

— Wedding Planner on behalf of Couple

Here was my response:

“Hey X!

Please use this inquiry form: HERE .This will give me all the info I need (wedding date/ household count, etc) for next steps.

Based on the pictures above – die cut, custom venue illustration, envelope liners, vellum wrap, wax seal (possibly ribbon), please note this would most likely fall into tier 2 under the budget selection, as these are all upgrades. Just a reminder, I don’t copy another artist’s work but we can ‘def use the elements she’s loving (upgrades, sages, pinks) to create a completely custom design.

Here’s what that email really told me:

  • Price shopping was their main priority. If you’re still “checking Minted,” you’re not ready for a high-touch, custom design experience.
  • On top of that, they wanted a Frankenstein design. Copy this Etsy listing, grab that Minted layout, slap on a vellum wrap… nope. That’s not artistry, that’s piecemeal DIY. You’re not looking for a designer. You’re looking for someone who has the ability to use Canva or Adobe that your planner doesn’t have — sorry not sorry.
  • The couple wasn’t looking for an expert. Instead of trusting me to create a cohesive vision, they wanted me to just execute instructions. That’s not how Paper Love Spell works.
  • They ghosted once I mentioned investment. Which told me everything I needed to know — they weren’t my people.

And honestly? That was a huge sigh of relief. Because my couples don’t just want “pretty paper.” They want a fully curated design experience — one that feels like them and turns their guests heads in the best possible way. So if that’s you vibe, your in the right place, with this wedding invitation designer!

Green Flag Inquiries: The “We Trust Your Artistry” Emails

Now let’s talk about what makes me jump up and down with excitement when a planner or couple hits my inbox:

💌 Email #1
“Hellllooooo Darling! I have another wedding for you. It’s Romeo & Juliet inspired so lots of sacred heart, angel wings, crossed star imagery. I attached the initial design deck so you can get a better look at the vibes…and we are looking for the following: *listed items*”

💌 Email #2
“The theme for our wedding is Goth Deco. Black flowers, purple lighting, black wedding dress. We have a fortune teller at the wedding, so something mystically magical. We were looking for something artisan, local, and a special experience for our invitations, and thought your whole vibe was really special.”

Why these are green flags:

  • This couple comes in with vision, not a shopping list. They’re here for mood, tone, and storytelling — not “copy this Etsy listing in sage green.”
  • They use words like special, artisan, experience — which tells me they actually value what I do and want something that feels like art, not a Pinterest collage.
  • Needing Creative expertise is their biggest pain point. They’re saying, “Here’s the energy we want. Now work your Paper Love Spell magic.”
  • Trusting the process. They don’t need to micromanage fonts or envelope colors — they’re here for a cohesive, branded wedding world that guests will feel from the moment they open that envelope.

✨ These are the couples + planners who get the red-carpet treatment because they’re not just asking for stationery… they’re asking for an immersive brand experience.

We’re a Match if You…

  • crave a custom design experience — not just color tweaks on something you found online.
  • are excited to hand over the creative reins (while I keep you looped in on all the fun stuff).
  • understand that artistry takes time — and you’re cool with giving me the runway to make magic.
  • realize you are investing in more than “paper” — you’re investing in an unforgettable experience.

We’re Not a Match if You…

  • want me to replicate something you’ve already seen elsewhere.
  • just looking for the lowest cost or fastest turnaround.
  • prefer to pick every single font, color, and shape before we start.
  • are hoping for DIY prices for a done-for-you, white-glove experience.
  • seeking a digital invitation with no printing. Not gonna happen.
